Meet Kim Zepeda

Hello everyone! I’m Kim and I’m 34 years old. I’m originally from the midwest, graduated from The University of Tennessee (go Vols!), and have been fortunate to call the Monterey Peninsula my home for the past 6 years. My husband, Chris and I have been married for 3 years and have a son, Lucas, 21 months.

I’m an ICU nurse, working the night shift, and have been doing so for 11 years. I’ve always been active, playing sports growing up and have tried to stay fit in my adult years! However, after having a baby and returning to work, my consistency with working out definitely has had it’s highs and lows. I would try to do a video or get on the treadmill while Lucas was napping, but staying motivated, working out by yourself is challenging. Sleeping always sounded like a better option! Fortunately, one of my co-workers (and Alexa’s neighbor) told me she was starting up SLAM here in Monterey. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I was definitely in a rut and looking for something new and being able to have Lucas there and involved was ideal! And we are so lucky to live in an area we can be outside year round!

Since starting SLAM, I know that my aerobic fitness is improving and I’m getting stronger. And several months ago, I couldn’t have imagined pushing the stroller for a 5k (I’ll make sure the next one is faster!)  Being a part of this group of strong, smart, funny, amazing women is just what I needed. These mamas are showing our kids how important it is to be outside, be active, and that being a strong woman is a good thing! I am so thankful for SLAM!
