Hi SLAM Nation! I’m baack!! My name is Lauren McKinnon. I am a proud Air Force spouse and lucky mama of two awesome boys (Jackson 8, Beckett 4). I am a former elementary school teacher, turned fitness instructor and SLAM junkie.
In July 2017, we made the move to Fort Leavenworth, KS. Because my husband was there for school, and we would only be stationed there for 1 short year, I decided to stay home with my youngest instead of taking a teaching position. Best. Decision. Ever! So, I went searching for something to fill our days. And lo and behold, I found SLAM. I was into fitness to some extent…I enjoyed staying active and had fun doing P90X at home. But this…this was something different, this was something amazing.
Walking up to class on that first day was so nerve-racking. I saw a huge group of women with their jogging strollers and I was completely intimidated. In fact, I almost turned around and went home. I’m so glad I didn’t. Because what I found was a community of women who embraced me and pushed me to become the best version of myself. I quickly became hooked and SLAM became a part of our daily routine.
As the year drew to a close, and we found out we were heading to Minot, ND…I knew I couldn’t just walk away. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I set my sights on becoming a SLAM Boss. I hit the books and worked toward my ACE group fitness instructor certification. During the same time, I enrolled in a 200 hour yoga teacher training program, which was absolutely amazing.
When we finally moved to Minot, I quickly set to work. I opened Stroller Strong Moms Minot on September 4, 2018. It was an absolutely incredible journey. I was fortunate enough to meet so many beautifully, strong and inspiring mamas and kiddos. We became a fierce SLAM tribe and I had the best time SLAM Bossing in Minot. I will truly miss each and every one of those mamas. But unfortunately, it had to come to an end, as good things tend to do.
So now, my focus is on the bayou, baby! We arrived here in Louisiana late July. And I’m gearing up to become a SLAM Boss once again! Shreveport / Bossier City…are you ready? It’s time to Sweat Like A Mother!
