Kelly Scardina | kelly.scardina@sweatlikeamother.com

Hiiiii! I’m Kelly Scardina; A California native, mom of 2, wife of 1. I am an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor, a Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach, CPR + AED certified, and SLAM Boss of Tacoma. I also hold a BA in Communication Studies with a focus in Event Planning from San Jose State University!

Growing up, I played every sport under the sun! I loved being active, and the fun that came with team sports. But the best part for me was the social aspect, and “what are we doing after”?!  So when I joined SLAM Tacoma in 2019 as an adult and mother, I knew it was for me.

Sports/active + event planning + social events = a dream come true!

As I got more involved in SLAM in 2020, I realized just how much I loved encouraging women, and being a hype squad + safe space for them! Encouraging women of all fitness levels, and showing them that they can do hard things, no matter how big or small, is the highlight of my job. Being an Instructor and business owner, has allowed me to be who i always wanted to be, and do all the things I could ever see myself doing. FITNESS. EVENT PLANNING. HYPE SQUAD, STAY AT HOME MOM. It’s not always easy, nothing is, but i can truly say i love it all!

The Tacoma Team

Kayte Makowski | Instructor

Hi! I’m Kayte Makowski; I am a boy mom of 2 and originally from Nevada. I am an Ace certified personal trainer and CPR + AED certified through the American Red Cross. I also hold a BA in Justice from University of Alaska Anchorage.

I’ve always loved fitness but discovered my true passion for it while living in Alaska for many years. From rock climbing to ice climbing, trail running to triathlons, and for many years a CrossFit athlete. After having my first son in 2017, I found SLAM Anchorage and fell in love with the community and what it had to offer.

Fast forward to 2021, our little family of 4 made our move from Nevada to Washington where we plan to call it our forever home. When my husband told me my Peleton couldn’t be my bff and I needed to make real friends I thought, “How do I do that?!” Until I remembered SLAM, immediately searched to see if one was close and the rest is history. I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing group of women and help guide them through their fitness journey!

Katie Gardner | Instructor

Hi, I’m Katie! An Ohio Native, Military Spouse, and Mom of two. I first started coming to SLAM with my daughter in 2021, and quickly became intrigued with the idea of coaching SLAM workouts. I became an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor in 2022 and began coaching moms in North Carolina. Besides the workouts, my favorite part of SLAM is playtime at the park afterwards, where I have the chance to talk with other SLAM moms and get to know them better (and of course learn a few parenting tips too!).

2023 brought big changes to my life: a new baby and a cross-country move! I am excited to now be SLAMing with two kids here in the PNW with SLAM Tacoma.

I was a Level 10 competitive gymnast growing up, so working out and building strength have always been a huge part of my life. I am a Registered Nurse and love being able to combine my passions for both health and fitness as a SLAM coach. I strive to create challenging and engaging work outs that go by quickly, are enjoyable, and make Mamas sore! I look forward to seeing you in the next class 🙂

Kelsey Landis | Instructor

Hi! I’m Kelsey Landis – Colorado native, military spouse married to my small-town high school sweetheart, mom of 3, and big big fan of tacos. I am an ACE-Certified Group Fitness Instructor, CPR/AED certified, and I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing from the University of Denver. I worked in marketing for STARZ Entertainment and the National Strength and Conditioning Association before pivoting to stay at home with my kids. I’ve lived in Oregon, Colorado, New York, North Carolina, and Washington, so I love exploring new places, being outdoors, and staying active!

I’ve been a founding member of multiple S.L.A.M. affiliate locations (Cameron-Sanford and Tacoma), S.L.A.M. virtual participant, as well as the owner of S.L.A.M. Denver, so it’s no doubt that I love everything about sweating like a mother. But I especially love it because it reminds me of the camaraderie, support, and strength I grew up with in competitive team sports. My absolute favorite thing to do is empower women, especially moms, every.single.day! Getting to support them on their journey to be the strongest, most confident version of themselves is the best job, and I am honored to be a part of it.

SLAMing in the PNW is next level, and I can’t wait to do it with y’all (again!).

April Inman | Yoga Instructor

Hey there! My name is April Inman and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a yoga instructor (YTT-200 with Rolf Gates). I’ve been in the mental health field for 9 years and now have my own private practice. I’ve been practicing yoga since 2007 and received my yoga instructor certification in 2017. Since then, I have worked for 3 different yoga studios and taught yoga for SLAM in Washington and North Carolina.

My yoga practice has helped me tremendously through difficult times in my life. It has taught me how to be in my body, take care of my body, and how to create my own calm. I get really excited about wellness and mental health and I genuinely believe that yoga is for every BODY and especially for every parent!

My husband is in the military and I grew up in a military family. Moving around isn’t foreign to me, but it’s always hard to make new friends in a new place. SLAM has been a great way for me to build community and SLAM Tacoma specifically has been the place where I have met some of my favorite people! I really love being able to teach for the SLAM community and offer back some of the ways yoga has helped me. I hope to see you in a class soon! Namaste.
